This is the first time in history where an entire country has adopted RWCs (Personal Watercraft with Rescue Sleds) as an integral piece of equipment and preferred method for water rescue operations conducted by its government rescue agency. Approximately, 180 Fire/Rescue Personnel were trained in basic open water and surf lifesaving (USLA Standards), and in the safe use of RWCs during open water rescue situations. The course was 6 weeks long. During the first week, a select group of personnel were chosen and trained by an Extractor Representative Instructor to become Assistant Instructors. The Instructor group trained other departments from the various regions in Malaysia during the successive weeks. These Assistant Instructors became Departmental Instructors after the 6 week class and will continue ongoing interdepartmental training in the future.
